Woman's Pleated Embroidered Apron
Circa 1400-1600

Materials : Linen ( fine weight)
Linen Thread : Bockens Knyppelgarn 50/2

Pleating and Embroidery: To pleat the fabric follow the instructions on -How to prepare your pleated ground -. For this piece, the gathering stitches were spaced approximately 3/8" apart and 8 rows were placed about 1/4" apart. The pattern is a basic honeycomb stitch also shown at - Basic Stitches -

Needle is drawn through the top 1/16th of an inch or so of the top of the pleat and pulled tight.
A second stitch is laid over top of the first stitch
The needle is then passed up under the pleat, coming out slightly on the inside of the pleat, lining up with the row above. Make a stitch between two pleats as seen above.
Again a second stitch is made
The needle is then passed down to the lower row again, through the top of the pleat.
Completed honeycombed embroidery. Gathering threads are not yet removed
Gathering threads removed !
